Our team successfully finished FEM strength analysis of large car carrier. The analysis was performed in 3 steps.
At first stage three-dimensional finite element global model covering complete ship with coarse mesh was prepared. It gives boundary conditions for more detailed cargo ship model created in second step. At the end submodels with fine mesh were prepared.
Additionally detailed analysis of connection between pillars and decks’ structure was performed which gave us tips how to redesign pillars to fulfill strength requirements.
